Looks like they had an issue with the rudder.

Another video shows they'd been bouncing in and out of displacement mode for a while, and had an unusually large amount of heel on while trying to initiate foiling after another big splashdown before the capsize started. Maybe the heel is why the rudder cavitated. It's a long way to the centerline from the foil so not much angle translates to a lot of depth loss. itput.info/zone/video/gK2ggoJwrqiqinI

They broke the boat. They won't be able to defend the Cup now. You heard it here first.

From other footage I've seen there was a chopper in the airspace a bit too close for comfort so it appeared. Maybe that downdraft affected the rudder getting cavitation and losing its grip.

We are good at capsizing this beast haha

This is going to happen to all crews or similar throughout the regatta. When you are pushing these yachts at this speed mishap will happen. Better now than later. Team NZ looked to have a good lead.

Gee when that rudder fully ventilates there nothing holding the stern down.. it just goes!

When you have practised more and worked out how to go all the way, that manoeuvre will be a winner in the underwater legs of the Cup. None of other teams will be able to do it. 😉
